Attention residents living in the vicinity of the Joslen Water Tank: Gifford Parkway, Riverview Boulevard, Cedar Parkway, Joslen Boulevard, Livingston Parkway and Anthony Avenue
This notice is to inform you about the impending Joslen Water Tank Rehabilitation Project. The Joslen Water Tank has a capacity of 175,000 gallons, and is part of a three-tank system that supplies water pressure to residents in the water district. The tank will be drained, cleaned, repaired and painted on the interior and exterior. Repairs are expected to begin on or around July 31, 2023 and rehabilitation is expected to take up to two weeks. Please check the Town of Greenport website for exact start date and traffic updates. Before the contractor can begin work, the tank must be drained. This process will take a day or two and you will notice the water draining north on the shoulder of Joslen Boulevard, making its way to the drainage ditch near the Columbia Land Conservancy parking lot. We do not expect the water to cause any issues, but please use caution when traveling through the area. In order for the contractor to safely access the work site, the Joslen Boulevard southbound lane will be closed in the area of the Joslen Tank for the duration of the rehabilitation. The Town of Greenport Highway Department will be responsible for setting the traffic pattern. There will be temporary traffic lights at either end of the pattern and traffic will be reduced to one lane. Please plan extra time if you need to travel through this area of town. Please be advised that the equipment being used to remove the paint and rust from the tank will produce excessive noise. The sandblasting is expected to take 2-3 days. Work will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until 7 p.m. until the rehabilitation is finished. We do not anticipate an interruption in your water service or a decrease in your water pressure. Should you notice any issues with your water service, please contact the Town of Greenport Water and Wastewater Department at (518) 828-3400. If you would like future notices and alerts sent to your email, please send a message to [email protected].
